Official Statement of Support for Myaware

The European Myasthenia Gravis Association (EuMGA) formally expresses its unwavering support for Myaware, the UK's leading charity for people affected by Myasthenia Gravis (MG), in their advocacy for equitable and timely access to effective treatment—most critically, full coverage of Efgartigimod for patients in need.

Efgartigimod represents a clinically validated advancement in the treatment of refractory Myasthenia Gravis, offering renewed hope and substantial improvement in quality of life for individuals who have exhausted conventional therapies. For many, it is not a luxury—it is a lifeline.

While we recognise the financial challenges faced by national health systems, we strongly affirm that cost must never outweigh care. Denial of access to this treatment may offer short-term savings but will inevitably result in long-term human and economic costs—including increased hospitalisations, prolonged admissions, and additional burdens on critical care services.

We also stress that MG is a rare disease, and the number of individuals requiring Efgartigimod is relatively small. In the broader context of public healthcare funding, the cost of providing access to this therapy is modest—but for patients, its impact is life-changing.

As such, EuMGA stands side by side with Myaware in calling upon the UK and European governments to make compassionate, just, and evidence-based decisions. We urge full funding and immediate availability of Efgartigimod for eligible MG patients.

We must not allow rare disease patients to be sidelined by economic calculations. Their dignity, functionality, and quality of life are not negotiable.

We stand in unity.
We stand for access.
We leave no one behind.
