Who knows where I’d be?

I started on the road of knowing I had Myasthenia Gravis by being referred to my local eye clinic with double vision. They fitted my glasses with a temporary prism and that corrected my vision. After a few weeks, my double vision corrected itself and I removed the prism, but after a week my double vision returned.

I asked to be referred back to the eye clinic where I was previously seen and after testing my eyes, where they told me it was now my other eye that had muscle weakness. This made them suspect I had Ocular Myasthenia Gravis.  A blood test confirmed their thoughts.

I was referred to a Neurologist who examined me and suggested that I look up the myaware website which was very helpful.

After a few weeks, my double vision again corrected itself, and I have not required a prism for nearly 3 months!

I am pleased that at the moment I have no problems with my condition but it’s a strange feeling knowing you have the condition and waiting for it to manifest itself again.

If I hadn’t advocated for myself and asked to be referred back to the eye clinic, I may not be where I am now.
